Plant leaves not opening or unfurling: the cause and solution!
If you’re a proud plant parent, you know how exciting it is to see new growth. Watching fresh leaves appear is one of the best parts of being a plant lover! But sometimes, those new leaves just won’t open up. They stay curled, stuck, or only halfway unfurled. Don’t panic — this happens to many houseplants, and it’s fixable.

Low humidity
This is the number one cause of stuck leaves! Most tropical houseplants love humidity. When the air is too dry, the delicate new leaves can’t expand properly and may even stick together.

Tips to help your plant unfurl her leaves
Some plants, especially aroids like Philodendrons and Alocasias, grow their leaves from protective layers called cataphylls. Once the leaf grows out, the cataphyll dries up. Sometimes, a leaf gets stuck inside it. If that’s the case, you can choose to let nature be and wait till she manages to grow out of it, or you can lend a helping hand! Use a cotton bud and gently pull through the cataphyll to free your plant’s leaf. Now your plant can grow her leaf further!
